A rare piece of Australian fashion history.

Wounded black  rayon crepe dinner dress has a beaded sunburst beneath the high neckline and a petal shaped feature at the front of the waist which covers the belt fastening. The belt is a stuffed tube of matching fabric. The slightly flared skirt has an inverted pleat at the side front and centre back. The dress is knee-length, or slightly longer. Closes with a metal zip in the side and a second short zip at the back of the neck. Brand is Lucéle, a Sydney company first registered in 1946. The dress dates from around that period.

Condition

Fair, wearable condition. I have added two large petal shaped patches to the front bodice to cover a badly torn area. The underarms were also badly torn and have been pieced back together. You can see the underarm patching from the back but I don't think it will be noticeable while the dress is being worn. There are a few beads missing from immediately below the neck at the centre. Some slight pilling on the front of the skirt. A previous owner has added modern shoulder pads.
